Warwick is proud to welcome one of the most influential bassists of all time, Rex Brown, into the Warwick family. Through his work with Pantera, Rex introduced the world to groove metal and has had an influence on every metal band since. Although Rex is most known for his work with Pantera, he has been active in other bands such as Kill Devil Hill and Down and can be seen on multiple recordings. Rex plays the WA 600 Amp Heads combined with Warwick 8×10” Cabinets and uses Warwick Masterbuilt Custom Shop Basses. We look forward to a long and successful partnership with Rex.
Phil Anselmo’s 10 Coolest Non-Pantera Projects
Down, Superjoint + beyond: how the hardest working beast in extreme music keeps going.
by Mike McPadden 9/19/2015
When you mention Philip Hansen Anselmo, most heavy music fans known him primarily, if not exclusively, as the vocalist of Pantera.
Alas, Anselmo’s time as the front-maniac of those metal titans is just the beginning of how New Orleans’ loudest and proudest son has impacted music—and so much more.
Cowboys From Hell: 25 Facts About the Pantera Classic
Phil Anselmo continually creates, shapes, promotes, and inspires extreme rock—along with films, art, festivals, and other media—in an ever-evolving variety of vehicles and guises. And all of Phil’s undertakings, rest assured, definitely fall under the classification of “extreme.”
In 2015, Anselmo’s Superjoint group embarked on their first tour in over a decade, and his annual Housecore Horror Festival is gearing up to once again soak Texas with sonic and cinematic boodle-letting. So now is a perfect time pay tribute to this tireless one-man metal mayhem factory with a salute to ten of his coolest, and heaviest, projects.
10 Metal Grasshopper
To simply listen to Phil Anselmo’s ferocious singing voice is to, understandably, perhaps miss out on how hilariously good-humored he also happens to be. One performer who picked up on that side of Phil is comedian Dave Hill. Together, they created Metal Grasshopper, a web series in which Anselmo schools Hill in the uproariously definable art of being, at all times, metal.
9 Boxing Insider
hil Anselmo’s vocals pummel listeners like an onslaught of prizefighter combination punches, and to watch him in performance is see clearly how the sweet science impacted Phil’s stage presence. Anselmo comes by this association way more than honestly: as a lifetime fight fan, Phil frequently speaks about the sport, and reguarly serves as a writer and correspondent for the industry’s bible, Boxing Insider.
8 Anton Crowley
Aleister Crowley aka “The Great Beast” was a world-changing British philosopher, occultist, multimedia artist, and champion mountain climber familiar to heavy metal fans through a multitude of venues, including Ozzy Osbourne’s “Mr. Crowley” and Jimmy Page taking up residence in the old sorcerer’s castle on Loch Ness.
Anton LaVey founded the Church of Satan in 1966 and three years later authored The Satanic Bible. Ever since then, both the book and/or some representation of LaVey’s chrome-domed, arched-eyebrowed visage have been as required fixtures in every budding headbanger’s bedroom alongside black-light posters, skull t-shirts, and Sabbath records coated with weed-rolling residue.
In creating a new high-concept persona, Phil Anselmo combined the two unholy icons as “Anton Crowley.” He’s used the name while playing guitar for death metal gore hounds Necrophagia, singing lo-fi black metal with Viking Crown, screaming in the name of Satan for Christ Inversion, and other undertakings as he so feels possessed by the Anton Crowley spirit.…
Summarizing heavy metal history with 50 of its greatest albums is, needless to say, a daunting task. After all, if you view Black Sabbath’s arrival in 1970 as the metal genre’s year zero, simple mathematics would only allow for just over one album from each year. The point being, mathematics were no help to the Loudwire staff as we set about compiling, debating, challenging and insulting, and finally reluctantly agreeing to the list you now see before you in the gallery above.
In it, you’ll find some obvious names, like Metallica, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden and Slayer, some expected ones like Megadeth, Judas Priest, Motorhead and Pantera, and hopefully some surprises, but our goal was to represent the albums containing the very best music and displaying the greatest influence within a genre that has been thriving for 40 plus years with no signs of slowing down.
So check out Loudwire’s Top 50 Metal Albums of All Time in the gallery above! And check out more Loudwire lists below.

Aug 20 is Dime’s birthday and stories, pictures, and videos surfaced all around the web today in recognition of this. Take a look and some of it below.
New interview with Pepper Keenan by Loudwire (Darrell wasn’t even brought up beforehand):
Loudwire: Would you rather have lunch with a music icon who has passed away or a music icon who is still alive? And who would it be?
Pepper: Well, I’d like to have lunch with [Dimebag] Darrell. That would be awesome to do that again. Let me tell you he would have been a blast on the Motorboat Cruise or any of those things. Oh my God, he’d be hanging out with me out there, doing shots with the kids and making them go f—ing apes—t.…
No one ever went to a Led Zeppelin concert expecting the band to open with “The Rain Song.”
It’s a fine tune, to be sure, but the electric charge of a crowd in waiting must be met in kind.
The same applies to the album: Kiss didn’t open Destroyer with “Beth,” for example. And Metallica had the prudence to place “Fade to Black” a good four songs into Ride the Lightning.
If you’re in a band with Dimebag Darrell and you want your performance to be noticed, you better bring your A-game.
For over two decades, Rex Brown stood by Dime’s side and became a crucial element of Pantera’s bone-crushing rhythm section, managing to find his role in the mix alongside Dimebag’s massive tone and Vinnie Paul’s relentless drumming.
Rex Brown wrote the foreward and both Philip Anselmo & Rex were interviewed for the book. And you may recognize the guys on the cover as well. Pick it up at Amazon here: http://smarturl.it/survivalbook or Barnes & Noble here: http://smarturl.it/bnsurvival

While frontmen and guitarists get a lot of the glory in rock bands, drummers are very much a driving force behind the music, especially when it comes to hard rock and heavy metal. In the gallery above, we salute the men behind the kit with our picks for the Top 50 Hard Rock + Metal Drummers of All Time.
Some of these drummers were chosen based on their world-topping chops; some based on their historical influence; others based on knowing when to not show off their virtuosity; and ofttimes they were chosen based on some combination of all the above, among other talents.
But the end goal was to celebrate 50 drummers who have helped define the music we love, and now dominate our record collections. So take a seat and take the ride, and check out our list of Top 50 Hard Rock + Metal Drummers of All Time by clicking here.…
