With 2006’s Dimevision Vol 1: That’s The Fun I Have, fans of Dimebag Darrell and his work with Pantera and Damageplan were afforded the chance to see into the world of the legendary guitarist. Compiled from the many, many hours of video footage captured between the mid-80s and his later years, it was a funny, touching and poignant memorial.

Metal Blade Records is thrilled to announce the release of Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over – another true celebration of the man and how he lived his life – on November 24, 2017. Pre-orders are available via Metal Blade here. The DVD/CD set – which will include more raw footage, true gems and classic Dimebag moments – will also include five previously unreleased demos, picked from a vast catalog Dimebag accrued since longtime girlfriend Rita Haney gave him his first 4-track in 1984.

Beginning today, a PledgeMusic campaign has also been launched to support the release of the set. There, you can also view an official Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over trailer. In addition to acting as a pre-order for the set, the PledgeMusic campaign includes an assortment of rare items to buy, including props and costumes that belonged to Dimebag and that you can see in his home videos/Dimevision volumes, rare stage clothing, and other merchandise. Going into making Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over, Rita Haney worked in collaboration with Daryl “Bobby Tongs” Arnberger, who was not only one of Dimebag’s closest friends both on and off the road, but also worked as an official videographer for Pantera, Damageplan and a plethora of A-list musicians, from Slipknot to Dolly Parton, along with film editor Rob Fenn. After cataloguing hundreds of tapes, they chose 43 segments to create Dimevision Vol. 2.

Arnberger explains, “As we all watched, we envisioned certain segments and ideas coming to life in my head, and rather than it serving as a memorial, this second DVD is more about the vision Dime had in his head for this footage, what he actually wanted it to become. This one is more uplifting, funny, and it stays 100% true to his idea for Dimevision.”

Fans of the original know that this way of life involved a lot of whiskey, an insane amount of fireworks and a contagious desire to have fun – and like its predecessor, the title is also drawn from the words of the man himself. Having a habit of latching onto a saying or a phrase, this soon became part of his particular dialect, affectionately dubbed ‘Dime-bonics’. “It comes from something he was saying a lot in 2003 and 2004,” Haney recalls. “He’d call from the road and he’d say ‘man, I’m beat up out here, but that’s the highs and lows of rock and roll. You gotta roll with it or get rolled over.'”

“He had a unique way of seeing things, and he always lived with a video camera,” adds Haney. “No matter where we went he was always capturing what was going on, and myself and others around him were filming a lot too. In putting out these videos I just want people to see the way he was, 24/7. What you saw on stage and backstage, that was how he lived.”

Unsuspecting visitors to the couple’s home were regularly drawn in – memorable segments involve girl scouts selling cookies and Dimebag experiencing an “interesting” CPAP machine fitting – and events as mundane as taking a friend to get a pedicure become hilarious, thanks to his particular way of seeing the world. As endlessly entertaining as Dimebag was, there were of course other, deeper sides to his personality, which are also reflected in both volumes. Haney adds, “There were some really touching, deep, heavy and emotional moments in the first one, where he’s talking about himself to the camera while in the shower. Filming himself like that was something he did a lot, and you’d have no clue until you’re looking through the tapes and come across them, and when you do the goosebumps crawl all over you. People that love and know Darrell are going to be touched by what he has to say, because it’s him telling you for the first time.”

As for his included demos, Dimebag not only wrote down the lyrics and dates of everything he recorded but also his thoughts on it at the time, which Haney will also be sharing with fans. However, she’s quick to point out that no one should expect high production standards (“It’s called a 4-track for a reason!”) and that these are not ‘lost’ Pantera tracks. “These songs come from his off-time, it was entertainment to him – one of them was even inspired by a George Michael solo record coming out back in the 80s!” she laughs. “But he loved making music and he appreciated all kinds of music, whether he was making a joke of it or not, it still caught his ear, and I hope people can enjoy these songs for what they are and the spirit they were made in.”

With so much footage left over, fans can rest assured that as fulfilling as Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over is, there’s still a lot to look forward to. Haney says, “We hope to make [Dimevision] an annual thing. It will all depend on if the fans want it and support it!”

Vinnie Paul Unveils Shrunken Head at The Golden Tiki

Originally posted on fb101.com here.

Located in Chinatown, Las Vegas, The Golden Tiki is a journey to a wondrous land where boundaries are only limited to one’s imagination. The vision of hospitality veteran Branden Powers, in collaboration with Seth Schorr, Jeff Fine and Joe Cain, The Golden Tiki has spared no expense in recreating the classic mid-century tiki bar, reminiscent of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s storied establishments.

The Golden Tiki added to its Cabinet of Curiosities Tuesday night by unveiling Vinnie Paul’s shrunken head. Managing Partner Branden Powers and The Baron of the Universe, former contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” were on hand to present the honor to the former Pantera member and co-founder and current member of supergroup HELLYEAH.

“This is such an honor. It’s great to be a part of this tradition,” said Paul. “I love The Golden Tiki and the tiki culture. What Branden has created here – a mix of tiki, rock ‘n’ roll and Las Vegas culture – is truly something special.”

Said Powers, “It’s an honor to have Vinnie’s shrunken head at The Golden Tiki. We love you and are so fortunate to have you as part of our tiki family. Everyone get out and see HELLYEAH this summer!”

Paul’s head was crafted over a four week process by Smithsonian artist Terry Barr, and is the sixth in a series of celebrity shrunken heads on display at Vegas’ iconic Tiki revival bar. Previous shrunken heads include Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach and Norm Clarke.

Below are some interesting snippets:

CC: How did you first get into music and did you ever like Pop, Funk or Soul music?
Phil: Absolutely, All of the above and how did I get into music? I was born and raised into a household of it. I had very, very young parents and I guess in the late 60’s, mid to late 60’s living in the French Quarter – music was tremendous so the plethora influences was thick, if you will.
CC: Do you recall any funk artists that you may have dug right off the bat like maybe The Gap Band or Rick James or…
Phil: That’s an interesting question…Um, you know band like The Gap Band and Rick James, I mean, as far as radio hits…I mean, you gotta love Rick James. I…what is it, Super Freak…I mean, you gotta love it, it’s a killer riff…I mean, it’s lovable so but gosh this is interesting, I like this interview…Growing up one of the big hits on the radio in New Orleans was “Right Place, Wrong Time” by Dr. John, so we had this different feel…I mean, I don’t know if Dr. John can be lumped in with traditional folk, pardon me traditional funk players…But. It’s like, um…it’s still for I guess New Orleans funky feel…I mean we’ve always had The Meters play and I’ve seen The Meters jam a few times throughout my life and they always throw down…So the funky, funky Meters and Dr. John and you know what more can be said…But, more…I love em’, I love em’. Once again though there artists with quite the catalogs. If you pointed to one direct record or anything like that. It’s like a lot of bands, you know you like certain songs that you’re aware of and then there’s you know, like case in point, another cat would be David Essex, his biggest hit would be, “Rock On” like back in the day. His sound reminds me of WAR. It’s like if WAR was the backing band, it almost sounds like it. But, he had another song of that record called, “Streetfight” which was fucking badass man, so kick ass, so you know, there you go, I mean, we can can go any direction you want from here.

CC: Is there anything Pantera left to release or has it already come out already?
Phil: That’s interesting because I did find a track I cannot make heads or tails out of and I know it’s the guys…But, I never did vocals over the top of it and I’m sure back in the day there was good reason for it, it doesn’t really do much, it’s like, riffs back & forth and that’s that, so it must’ve been just a…I guess, a mulling type of idea that had gone on, either we put it to bed or just moved on because truthfully Pantera there really was not that much unreleased material laying around, there really wasn’t we used almost everything that we…um, would come up with I guess you know?

CC: Does it bother you to hear artists express their opinions on subjects outside of music, such as, politics and do you like their art any less if you disagree with them?
Phil: That’s an interesting question, um…because obviously we just had this crazy election “cycle” (?) pass…and yes it’s fucking crazy! …Honestly!
CC: There’s some people that think musicians should only have opinion to do with music, and if they…
Phil: Ah well, that’s bullshit you know, like human beings I don’t think a damn person on the planet outta be thought policed that’s ridiculous and if you have an opinion on something that;s all it is and it’s an opinion…so…doesn’t really bug me all that much. It’s when I guess it seems like if a person has a large following, I guess, it starts and ends there. You know, if you have a large following and then you are speaking politically and you are an actress, actor, musician, whatever and you’re trying to sway your audience, you know it’s …at the end of the day it’s really up to the individual, you know I’m all about the individual…you know, I’m all about individuality that’s what makes the world go ‘round. Individuality and all the wonderful things within individuality. I don’t like boxes, check marks and groups and all that shit. It’s like, stand your own ground with your own ideas and your own belief system or whatever man, you know, it’s like religion…it’s like…believe what you want but don’t try to convert me, ya know.
