The Metal Mayhem at Dimebash 2018 by ocweekly.com

Despite being largely regarded as one of the greatest guitarist in heavy metal for his contributions in Pantera, his legacy can’t help but include his larger than life personality, and as his brother and longtime drummer Vinnie Paul would say, a heart as big as Texas.

Now, more than a decade later, metal fans gather in celebration on Thursday evening to show respect for their lost icon, and to put a resounding cap on the first day of NAMM 2018. Hosted by radio personality and “natural born headbanger” Jose Mangin and held at the Observatory in Santa Ana. I could tell it was going to be a good turnout when my parking location was so far from the venue, it had me bemoaning the fact that I hadn’t yet downloaded an app on my phone for counting steps, something I should be doing every year NAMM rolls around.

Rex lands on musicradar.com’s list of “best bass players in the world right now”

2017 highlight: Brown will always be best known for his pummeling bass work with metal icons Pantera, but he deserves credit for stepping from the shadows of that band to pick up a six string guitar and microphone to front his new solo band. His new album Smoke On This is a real, gritty and rocking affair.

Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over, the follow up to the poignant first Dimebag Darrell video memorial set Dimevision Vol 1: That’s The Fun I Have, hit stores in November via Metal Blade Records. In its first week, Dimevision Vol 2 has debuted at #3 on the Top DVD Music Video chart!

Rita Haney says, “We just want to thank each and every one of you for getting behind Dimevision 2 and supporting its release… of course we’re #3… wouldn’t be right if it wasn’t Dime time! Darrell would be so stoked knowing you guys are all out there blowin’ it up Dime-style! Watch It Go!”

Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over is a true celebration of Dimebag and how he lived his life. The DVD/CD set – which includes more footage, true gems and classic moments – also includes five previously unreleased demos, picked from a vast catalog Dimebag accrued since longtime girlfriend Rita Haney gave him his first 4-track in 1984. Dimebag’s personally-written lyrics, dates and notes on those tracks are also included.

You can order Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over now via Metal Blade here, or via the official PledgeMusic pre-order/campaign, which includes an assortment of rare items to buy – including props and costumes that belonged to Dimebag and that you can see in his home videos/Dimevision volumes, rare stage clothing, and other merchandise. Dimevision Vol 2 continues in the same vein as Dimevision Vol 1 with the inclusion of hilarious video segments that will bring back great memories for any fan of Dimebag Darrell and his bands. Check out two other exclusive clips revealed from the set, the first including a very interesting CPAP machine fitting clip, and another showcasing a few of Dime’s favorite costumes and props available on the PledgeMusic page. Hurry, items are going fast!

Going into making Dimevision Vol 2: Roll With It Or Get Rolled Over, Rita Haney worked in collaboration with Daryl “Bobby Tongs” Arnberger, who was not only one of Dimebag’s closest friends both on and off the road, but also worked as an official videographer for Pantera, Damageplan and a plethora of A-list musicians, from Slipknot to Dolly Parton, along with film editor Rob Fenn. After cataloging hundreds of tapes, they chose 43 segments to create Dimevision Vol. 2.

Rex’s solo record “Smoke On This” lands on Loudwire’s top 25

Via Loudwire: After toiling in several post-Pantera projects, Rex Brown stepped up to the mic (and guitar) and delivered a stellar solo debut. While ‘Smoke on This’ may not be reminiscent of Pantera, the musician does cop the attitude of that band while delivering a bluesy, rock-leaning gem. Highlights include the Zeppelin-esque “Crossing Lines,” the sludgy “Buried Alive” and the more psychedelic “Get Yourself Alright.” Brown’s ‘Smoke on This’ feels just as at home on a gin joint jukebox as it would ripping through your headphones.
