1992 was a stacked year for heavy music. Grunge and alternative were ruling the roost with standout releases from Alice in Chains (Dirt), Ministry (Psalm 69), Rage Against the Machine (self-titled) and Faith No More (Angel Dust) while heavy-metal icons including Megadeth and Iron Maiden dropped fire, too (Countdown to Extinction and Fear of the Dark, respectively). But arguably the year’s most important and hard-hitting heavy release was by rising Texas stars Pantera — who unleashed their genre-defining groove-metal magnum opus Vulgar Display of Power.

The Texas juggernaut comprised of singer Philip Anselmo, guitarist Dimebag Darrell, bassist Rex Brown and drummer Vinnie Paul — are one of the greatest metal bands of all time, hands down. Dallas craft brewery Texas Ale Project has announced a new beer collaboration with legendary Texas music icons PANTERA. Pantera Golden Ale, 5.4% ABV, the first beer to bear the PANTERA name, will be available March 2021.

“We love creating fine ales and enjoy all kinds of music,” says Brent Thompson, founder and brewmaster of Texas Ale Project. “We’re very excited to unite these two passions together under our roof, this time in partnership with the almighty PANTERA. I couldn’t be more pumped about this project.”

10. Pantera, Cowboys From Hell (1990)

Pantera came about around the early Nineties. They were together before then, but they suddenly started to crush with the impact of Cowboys From Hell. If you know your music and your rock & roll, great things happen at the start of every decade. So when I got an earful of Cowboys From Hell, I knew that this was going to be a shifter. This actual display of the style of music that these guys were playing was literally going to shake up the world, which it did. We all know so many beautiful things about the band, especially Dimebag [Darrell, guitar], who I think was the driving force behind that band. What everybody was doing was just a full-on assault and attack, which got even stronger and more potent as they moved on to Far Beyond Driven, Great Southern Trendkill, and all of those other great records later on. But this one, this first one, really does the business for me.…
