Vinnie Paul Unveils Shrunken Head at The Golden Tiki

Originally posted on fb101.com here.

Located in Chinatown, Las Vegas, The Golden Tiki is a journey to a wondrous land where boundaries are only limited to one’s imagination. The vision of hospitality veteran Branden Powers, in collaboration with Seth Schorr, Jeff Fine and Joe Cain, The Golden Tiki has spared no expense in recreating the classic mid-century tiki bar, reminiscent of Don the Beachcomber and Trader Vic’s storied establishments.

The Golden Tiki added to its Cabinet of Curiosities Tuesday night by unveiling Vinnie Paul’s shrunken head. Managing Partner Branden Powers and The Baron of the Universe, former contestant on “America’s Got Talent,” were on hand to present the honor to the former Pantera member and co-founder and current member of supergroup HELLYEAH.

“This is such an honor. It’s great to be a part of this tradition,” said Paul. “I love The Golden Tiki and the tiki culture. What Branden has created here – a mix of tiki, rock ‘n’ roll and Las Vegas culture – is truly something special.”

Said Powers, “It’s an honor to have Vinnie’s shrunken head at The Golden Tiki. We love you and are so fortunate to have you as part of our tiki family. Everyone get out and see HELLYEAH this summer!”

Paul’s head was crafted over a four week process by Smithsonian artist Terry Barr, and is the sixth in a series of celebrity shrunken heads on display at Vegas’ iconic Tiki revival bar. Previous shrunken heads include Marky Ramone of The Ramones, Carrot Top, Frank Marino, Robin Leach and Norm Clarke.

From Rolling Stone Magazine: Hear Hellyeah Cover Phil Collins With Lost Dimebag Darrell Guitar Performance

Heavy metal supergroup Hellyeah had finished recording the basic tracks for fifth album Unden!able when they started throwing around ideas for a cover song to add to the mix. Guitarist Christian Brady suggested the 1982 Phil Collins song “I Don’t Care Anymore,” and drummer Vinnie Paul burst out laughing — not because he thought it was a bad idea, but because he and his late brother Dimebag Darrell, both of legendary metal band Pantera, recorded the track around 10 years ago with their follow-up band Damageplan. The version went unused.

Vinnie Paul speaks out about his upcoming show at Rock On The Range in Columbus, Ohio. It’s his first time playing there since Dimebag Darrell’s death in 2004.

“It’s taken me a long time to really get in the right headspace to where I feel like it was time to do it. And it wasn’t anything specific; we’ve been offered to do it just about every year since HELLYEAH’s been together. And this year, it just kind of hit me. I said, ‘You know what? I think it’s time for the people there to hear what we do and to go back and just do my thing and show a little love to my brother.’ I know the crowd’s gonna be chanting ‘Dimebag!’ It’s gonna be huge, so it’s gonna be awesome.”
